Ruskin is an was founded August 7, 1908, on the shores of the Little Manatee River.
It remains an agricultural center of Florida and in recent decades has expanded exponentially with housing developments.
The town is home to Cockroach Bay Aquatic Preserve.
Wimauma is located in southern Hillsborough County - bordered on the west by Sun City Center, and to the south by Manatee County. Route 301 forms part of the western border of Wimauma, leading north 19 miles to the Tampa area.
